Teen sensations Madison Landsman (3/10) and Kgomotso Rapoo (3/2) sparked an amazing comeback as the Coronations defended 103 to claim a sensational 59-run win, writes Emily Norris.
The Coronations batted first, with Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits opening the batting. Wolvaardt faced up to Shabnim Ismail in the first over, clipping the first ball for 4 off her pads. Nobulumko Baneti dismissed Brits for 13 runs, with an excellent diving catch from Jade de Fiquerido.
Wolvaardt was looking comfortable with 25 runs off 16 balls, before Moseline Daniels took a one-handed blinder off of her own bowling. The Coronations’ skipper, Nadine de Klerk, scored a steady 30 off 31, before being bowled by Shabnim Ismail with a ball that crashed into off stump. The Coronations struggled to a score of 103 for 9.
With a change in the batting order, Courtney Gounden opened the batting for the Thistles. She fell early to 16-year-old Madison Landsman in the second over of the innings, scoring just 1 run off 5 balls.
Trisha Chetty was the only batter who got to double figures, scoring 23, the highest score of the team’s innings. She too was dismissed by Madison Landsman. Landsman finished with figures of 3/10 in her 4 overs, also taking 1 catch.
Another U19 player, Kgomotso Rapoo, bowled outstandingly, finishing with figures of 3/2 from 2 overs. She took the wickets of Candler, Ismail and the Thistles’ captain, Tumi Sekhukhune.
Kula took the final wicket of the innings, which saw the Thistles end on 44 all out. The Coronations won emphatically by 59 runs.
