The One Day Cup defending champions the Lions slumped to a second hefty defeat, while the Titans got their campaign off to a positive start in the weekend’s fixtures.

After they were bowled out for 89 by the newly promoted KZN Tuskers, the Lions welcomed Western Province to the Wanderers. The defending champs were bowled out for 128 runs. Wiaan Mulder starred with the bat for the hosts, scoring 96, while the rest of the team collapsed around him with single-digit scores.

Nandre Burger was superb for WP, taking 6-38. Beuran Hendricks was also effective with 3-40.

Western Province chased down the score with ease to claim a 10-wicket victory. Tony de Zorzi scored 68 off 46 balls and Jonathan Bird scored 61 off 52 balls. They scored 129 in 16.2 overs.

Scorecard

In the Titans vs the Paarl Rocks match it was another one-sided game. The hosts scored 380-7. Dean Elgar top scored with 103 off 99 balls. Donovan Ferreira also scored a milestone with 63 off 40 balls, while the rest of the team got decent cameos to add to the total.

The Titans bowled the Rocks out for 143 in 33.2 overs. Christiaan Jonker top-scored with 37.
