Reeza Hendricks’ century for South Africa A suggests he is rounding into form ahead of the Proteas T20I series against India, writes Craig Stirton.

By all accounts, it was a trying time for South Africa A in their tour opener against India A – a modest reply of 258 consigning the tourists to a 69-run defeat. On a day which left a fair bit to be desired, Hendricks shone brightly.

As wickets tumbled around him, The 30-year-old opener proved a thorn in the Indian’s side. He occupied the crease for the better part of 39 overs during which time he struck 12 fours and one six en route to a 108-ball 110.

With the T20I series against India on the horizon, Hendricks will take heart from this performance when one considers how many touring batsmen tend to struggle on the subcontinent.

Some quarters of the South African public felt Hendricks was unlucky to miss out on World Cup selection and innings of this quality will do little to placate them.

For now, though, they would be content with more of the same as Hendricks gears up for the three-match T20I series against India beginning on 15 September.
