Durban – Fireworks at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Wednesday night as Joburg Super Kings down Durban Super Giants by 16 runs.

It was a sea of blue in Durban as the locals came out in numbers to rally behind their favourites in the second match of the SA20 tournament.

The coin fell in favour of JSK captain, Faf du Plessis and he chose to bat first on what was a sunny Durban day.

However, Durban Super Giants had other plans for the visitors as they were found reeling at the end of the powerplay with only 27 runs on the board having lost four wickets.

The spectators got their money’s worth when Donovan Ferreira Joined Du Plessis at the crease. The pair managed to stabilize the shop as they combined for a 30-run partnership.

Ferreira unleashed his wrath on the hosts with an entertaining 82 not-out. West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd, joined in on the action and raced his way to a healthy 40 (19) blasting four 6s in the process.

Joburg Super Kings’ innings eventually finished 190/6 after 20 overs.

In reply, West Indies all-rounder, Kyle Mayers walked to the crease accompanied by skipper Quinton de Kock for the run chase, the pair needed to score 9.05 runs per over if they were to finish on top last night.

Mayers survived an early scare as he edged fellow countryman, Alzarri Joseph who was found to have overstepped resulting in a no-ball.

De Kock and Mayers showed their experience as they successfully negotiated the powerplay without losing a wicket, the duo cruised along nicely scoring 10 runs per over.

Mayers was the first to go two runs shy of a 100-run opening partnership with the skipper.

De Kock followed four overs later with an excellent 78, tucking himself nicely in second position behind Ferreira (82) in the highest scores column of the SA20 tournament.

Joburg Super Kings displayed their class with the ball as they did not allow Durban Super Giants’ middle order to revive the innings. The hosts could only manage 174 runs.

Durban Super Giants will travel to the New lands Stadium to take on MI Cape Town meanwhile, Joburg Super Kings next assignment is Paarl Royals at Boland Park.

Both fixtures are set to take place Thursday, 13 January 2023.
