Chris Morris was sold for 16.25 crore (over 2.2 million dollars) to the Rajasthan Royals to become the most expensive player in IPL history.

Morris was the main attraction signing for big money. Last season the South African all-rounder was roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for Rs 10 crore. This year RR smashed that price picking him up for Rs. 16.25 crores which is approximately $2.2 million dollars – over R32 million rand.

He dethrones Pat Cummins who was previously the most expensive overseas player in IPL history and surpasses Yuvraj Singh as the previously most expensive player in history.

Morris was released by RCB after 9 appearances last season where he scored 34 runs and picked up 12 wickets.

Previously these were the most expensive players:

Yuvraj Singh – With the base price of Rs 2 crore, Delhi Daredevils, in 2015 placed a bid of Rs 16 crore on him. He was also the most expensive player in 2014 with RCB’s bid for him at Rs 14 crore.

Pat Cummins –  2020, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) offered the highest bid of Rs 15.5 crore for Pat Cummins.

Gautam Gambhir – In 2011, Rs 14.9 crore to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Ben Stokes – In 2017, Rising Pune Supergiants placed the highest bid of Rs 14.5 crore on him. He was also the most expensive player in 2018 when he went for Rs 12.5 crore to Rajasthan Royals.
