Herschelle Gibbs says he would like to hear answers from the Proteas players as to what went wrong at the World Cup.
The Proteas’ World Cup campaign was poor. Just two wins and one no result out of their nine matches, was way below what was expected from the Side who were ranked No 3 heading into the World Cup.
After losing three games on the bounce it was almost impossible to recover and with a no result to the West Indies the task because even more daunting.
Ultimately, it was South Africa’s most disappointing World Cup exit.
Proteas legend, Gibbs, gave his insight on what disappointed him the most about the campaign.
“The body language [disappointed me]. A lot of people observed or felt like they weren’t trying hard enough. But it was disappointing, to see how they went about things like that,” Gibbs told ESPNcricinfo.
“I don’t think they expected them to lose so many games from the start. It was heartbreaking.
“There will obviously be an enquiry about what happened and it would be nice to hear some answers from the players.”
Gibbs was recently appointed as a coach in the Euro T20 Slam and will be in charge of the Netherlands-based Rotterdam Rhinos.
