Temba Bavuma’s County Championship form will be crucial ahead of South Africa A’s tour of India.

Bavuma found his form in the County Championship with a second consecutive century which helped Northamptonshire claim a victory against Derbyshire.

It hasn’t been the best of starts to his County season, with Bavuma hitting his first big score in his fifth game in the tournament.

The Proteas batsman scored 68 towards the end of June, after being dismissed for 43 in his previous match.

It would take two more innings before he showed his true potential. It came against Lancashire on 7 July, when he hit a century in a match which ended in a draw.

In his latest game against Derbyshire (14-16 July), Bavuma helped set up a victory for his side.

He showed patience and perseverance by scoring a signature 188-ball 134. This saw Northamptonshire beat Derbyshire by 72 runs.

Bavuma’s form will do him good ahead of South Africa A’s tour of India in August/September and the England series which will follow.
