Kagiso Rabada got the crucial first wicket of the first session on Day 3 of the second Test at Newlands, as England aim to extend their advantage, writes Khalid Mohidin.
The ambience was a little dull around Newlands on the morning of Day 3, as the Proteas fans anticipated a quick wrap up by the England seamers.
James Anderson took out the Proteas tail by dismissing both Rabada and Anrich Nortje within 30 mins. He walked off the field raising the match ball to a loud cheer and applause in commemoration of his five-for.
England, in no rush to score runs, took their time in their approach.
While Kagiso Rabada’s bumper that struck Zak Crawley on the shoulder, showing the Proteas’ intent to strike quickly as expected.
After the early warning shot, he got his man by enticing him into a drive that saw Crawley find a thick outside edge that flew to Quinton de Kock.
Rabada’s celebration was a representation of the much-needed boost that the hosts needed.
England took a lead of 98 into lunch having scored 52/1.
