As we pass the half-way stage of the IPL 2025, we track the South African players’ performances, with only one player featuring in the top 10 list for their respective discipline.
Each player would play 14 matches if they featured in every game of the group stages. We have currently just passed the half-way mark with most players having played 8 games in the tournament thus far.
Aiden Markram is the only player in the top 10, sitting at No 9 in the top run scorers for the tournament. He’s played 8 matches, scored 274 runs at an average of 34.25, a strike rate of 149 and has 3 half-centuries to his name. All three half-centuries helped his side to victory – MI (53 off 38), GT (58 off 31) and RR (66 off 45).
The only other players to have managed half-centuries are Ryan Rickelton, Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis.
Although Heinrich Klaasen sits higher than these players on the runs scorerers list, he has yet to hit a milestone. He is currently sitting 22nd on the run scorers list having played 7 matches, 210 runs, at an average of 35.00 and a strike rate of 159. He played key roles in his side’s victory over RR (34 off 14) and PK (21 off 14).
Ryan Rickelton, in his first campaign, has played 8 matches, scored 204 runs, averages 29 and has a highest score of 62 not out, which came in a low-scoring winning chase against KKR. His 41 off 25 was key in setting his side up for victory against DC and in a successful chase against SRH he scored 31 off 23.
Tristan Stubbs has played 7 games with some key contributions to help his side to victory – a 34 not out off 18 balls against RR, a 38 not out off 23 balls against RCB, 24 off 12 against CSK and 21 off 14 against SRH.
Miller has played 8 games, but hasn’t had a lot of opportunities to score big, having come to the crease quite late in the innings. He scored 27 not out off 19 to help his side post 209, but they ended up losing the match batting first. His 27 off 14 against MI was key to get them to a winning 200-plus total.
In the bowling department, only Marco Jansen has played consistently for his franchise. He sits at No 20 on the top wicket takers list. Jansen played 8 games, has taken 8 wickets at an economy of 9.23 and a BBI of 3-17.
Kagiso Rabada has played two games, Anrich Nortje has played one, Wiaan Mulder one, Donovan Ferreira one and the rest have yet to play a match.
