India are in the driver’s seat on the third day of the first Test between India and South Africa, leading South Africa by 146 runs.

On a day that witnessed 19 wickets, a bowling masterclass from Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi ensured that India collapsed from 272/3 to 327 all out.

Lungi Ngidi finished with figures of 6/71 in 24 overs. Kagiso Rabada produced an improved bowling performance, finishing with 3/72 in 26 overs.

Indian bowlers made use of the conditions on offer, reducing South Africa to 32/4. Vice-captain, Temba Bavuma, and wicket-keeper-batter, Quinton de Kock rebuilt the innings with a counterattacking partnership of 72 runs. Bavuma scored an important 52 off 103 balls and de Kock scored 34 off 63 balls.

Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Keshav Maharaj tried to reduce the deficit, scoring 25 (45), 19(42), and 12(19), respectively.

Ultimately, South Africa were 197 all out. Mohammed Shami was the pick of the Indian bowlers, picking five wickets and conceding 44 runs in 16 overs.

India began their quest to add to their lead, ending Day 3 at 16/1 after 6 overs. Marco Jansen picked the wicket of Mayank Agarwal for 4(14).
