Lungi Ngidi’s 6-for highlighted a phenomenal bowling display in the first session of Day 3 by South Africa, who bowled India out for 327 before lunch.

The Proteas needed to turn up the heat on Day 3 after a rained out Day 2. India was on 273-3 after an excellent first-day batting display, which saw a century by KL Rahul and a 60 by Mayank Agarwal.

Many would have thought that India would bat SA out of the game, but a fightback from Ngidi and Rabada saw the Proteas work their way back into the contest.

Rabada (3-72) got the ball rolling after a tough Day 1. He removed the inform Rahul on 123 with India having added just 5 runs to their total. This pumped up the bowler as well as Rabada.

Ngidi (6-71) came into the action by removing Ajinkya Rahane on 48, the batter threw his hands at a delivery shaping away from him and edged it behind to the keeper.

It was pretty much a collapse from there on out, with Rabada picking up two more, Ngidi 2 more and Marco Jansen with a debut wicket to wrap up the innings. The only batter to get into double figures after Rahane’s wicket was Jasprit Bumrah who scored 14 before he was removed by Jansen.

India was all out for 327.

India struck early before lunch, Dean Elgar was dismissed by Bumrah. SA trail by 306 and are on 21-1.
