India enforced the follow-on on day 4 of the 2nd Test at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune and the Proteas were dominated again, writes Ongama Gcwabe.
Ishant Sharma gave the India captain the start he would’ve wanted for his team by removing South Africa’s opening batsman, Aiden Markram (lbw), with the second ball of the day, handing Markram a pair in the match. The replays showed that the Proteas should have reviewed the decision, as the ball was too high and missing leg stump.
Umesh Yadav then sent Theunis de Bruyn back to the pavilion for the second time in the match, and the South Africans were again in trouble on 2/21 in just 5.4 overs.
The Proteas captain came to the crease at number four and it was clear that he was on block mode as he managed only 5 runs off 54 deliveries before Ravichandran Ashwin accounted for the skipper for the second time in the match.
Dean Elgar showed a lot of determination, but the pressure that Ashwin and Jadeja created was too much and it was visible in the nature of Elgar’s dismissal. He threw his wicket away on 48 off 71 balls when he went for a big shot and it flew off the thick outside edge into the safe hands of Yadav at mid-off.
At Lunch, South Africa are 74/4 with Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock in the middle.
