Aiden Markram chats about scoring a century during the Proteas warm-up clash against the Indian Board President’s XI.

Only 50 overs were possible on day two of the Proteas’ warm-up match after poor weather prevented play on day one.

Aiden Markram breezed to another century while Dean Elgar, Theunis de Bruyn and Faf du Plessis all returned to the pavilion having only managed single figure scores.

Markram had some support from Zubayr Hamza (22 off 26 balls, 2×4, 1×6), the pair made a 55-run partnership before Hamza was trapped lbw by Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.

“Like I mentioned in the week it’s always nice to spend a bit of time in the middle,” said Markram.

“It’s almost the best form of practice. I enjoyed it out there today, (it was) very beneficial, for not only me, but everyone who spent time in the middle.

“Every bit of preparation that we can take before the series would be important and for us as batters today that’s what it was all about, spending time out in the middle and sort of getting to see where you can improve in your game and which things are in place.

“I’m happy with how it went today, happy that a few other guys had a good run out as well.”

Temba Bavuma joined Markram in the middle and they strung together a 93-run partnership. Bavuma was on 55 not-out when bad light stopped play.

Markram weighed in on Bavuma’s performance.

“Temba is obviously a massive batter for us in the Test series and its nice to see him hitting some form and getting some runs today as well.

“Like I said, there’s a lot of positives we can take from a day like today, we wish we could’ve played for slightly longer but it is what it is and we have no control over that.”

South Africa will resume on 194-3 on day 3.
