There has been an outrage on Twitter towards quotes that have surfaced from Temba Bavuma’s arrival press conference.

Plenty of accusations have been thrown around in comment sections and in tweets that these quotes were aimed at Reeza Hendricks.

We want you to make up your mind for yourselves.

This was the question asked:

Q: Throughout the tournament, in terms of tactics, and what you guys do behind the scenes. Was there ever a stage where discussions were held in terms of the make-up of the team – given individual performances of players in the team who were struggling – [was there discussions] about going in another direction?

Here was Temba’s full answer:

A: In terms of the strategy, that conversations happened pretty much every game. As you would have seen, we tried to select the team that spoke to the condition that we expected. In terms of form – I mean it’s at the World Cup so you always going to show confidence to the guys who you feel are in your best XI and that’s exactly what we did. Yeah, there might have been players who were not in form as you say, but you still have to show faith, you still have to show confidence in those guys that they can still put in match-winning performances. The last thing that you want in a World Cup is to be giving maybe someone who doesn’t have that type of experience – someone who hasn’t come across all the emotions of being in a World Cup and expecting him to do the business for the team – those conversations did happen. Those conversations happened before every game. I don’t think I’m going to go specifically into which players were spoken about, but those conversations happened as they would happen in every series.
