Dean Elgar’s entertaining 88 not-out included seven 4s and two 6s, as Tshwane Spartans won by eight wickets in Paarl.
Theunis de Bruyn and Elgar silenced the packed stadium with an opening stand of 104 runs.
The Proteas Test opening batsman put together an “uncharacteristic” knock as many would say, but today he proved many that he is a force to be reckoned with in the T20 format also.
His partnership of 55 runs with captain Heinrich Klaasen (31 off 13 with three 4s and two 6s) helped the Spartans chase 186 runs in 19.5 overs.
Earlier, the Purple Army got some entertainment from James Vince’s knock of 86* which featured eight 4s and two 6s to help the Rocks post a total of 185 runs for the loss of six wickets.
Morne Morkel put together a fine bowling performance as he grabbed the wicket of Faf du Plessis for a duck.
He finished with figures of 2-24 in 4 overs.
