South West Districts captain, Jean du Plessis chats about top-order batting in T20 cricket and the role of a captain in the T20 game.
South West Districts captain, Jean du Plessis in 14 matches, scored 397 runs at an average of 33.08, with his highest score being 69.
Du Plessis described his approach to batting in the top order, and elaborated on the shift in mindset if he gets set and needs to play the role of a finisher as well. As the captain of the team, du Plessis explained the role of data in decision-making.
However, du Plessis argues, instinct, confidence, and form are equally important considerations while making key decisions in the selection or while navigating the course of a game.
With the ability of South African batters to counter high-quality spin being a widely discussed topic in the media, du Plessis said there was a concerted effort to employ an attacking approach to spin.
Du Plessis also felt that the South African domestic circuit lacked wrist and mystery spinners. Therefore, to improve further, South African batters need more exposure to a variety of spinners to help elevate their games against spin.
