Anrich Nortje was an overwhelming favourite at the Cricket South Africa annual awards ceremony, where he was nominated in six categories, and emerged with four awards to his name.

Nortje was named South Africa’s Men’s Cricketer Of The Year, Test Cricketer Of The Year, Player’s Player Of The Year, and Fan’s Player Of The Year.

“Getting six nominations, didn’t think that would happen. It’s been such an up and down season, just happy to be a part of the awards again,” said Nortje.

“All in all, it has been a good season, quite happy with how it progressed and how my cricket has been going. Really looking forward to building on that going to the West Indies. Hopefully, we can take that momentum going forward,” reflected Nortje.

Ruminating on the highlights of his career, thus far, Nortje’s performances in the Test series against India, England, and Pakistan are most special to him.

“Having my bat in hand and getting my first fifer, and then when we played Pakistan now – to get the fifer in Pakistan was special as well. I would say, generally, in Test matches, there have been some special moments for me.”

With the upcoming tour of the West Indies, Nortje said, “I’m very excited to go to the West Indies, never been there. Don’t know what to expect, but it will be good. Hopefully, we can do our basics right, stick to our strengths, and win the series at the end of the day.”
