On The Daily Show, Khalid Mohidin and Aditya Mehta interviewed former Proteas bowler and current Western Province Blitz Assistant Coach, Rory Kleinveldt, to understand his perspective on the T20 game in South Africa and worldwide.

Heaping praise on Zubayr Hamza’s T20 game, having been previously perceived as a red-ball specialist, Kleinveldt said Hamza’s game improved by “leaps and bounds” in recent times.

Hamza, in addition to other players in the Western Province setup, have elevated their white-ball skills because “they have opened their minds up to different things in the format.”

Kleinveldt continued, “They understand that you have to let go of the fear of failure to want to succeed at this game. Play with freedom and just go and express yourself. Show people what you have, show people your talents.”

Kleinveldt stated he was “a bit of a cricket badger,” and tries to watch a lot of cricket to stay abreast of new trends in cricket.

“It’s massively important to stay in touch with where the game is at and trying to see what the new innovations are in the game,” said Kleinveldt.

With the T20 World Cup fast approaching, Kleinveldt said the South African national team is shaping up reasonably well to deliver strong performances at the tournament.

While he admitted to being concerned about the T20 team at the beginning of the season, Kleinveldt said that winning against the West Indies and Sri Lanka in conditions similar to the UAE and Oman will boost the Proteas’ confidence.
