“This team is on a mission,” said Proteas Head Coach, Mark Boucher, after South Africa sealed a historic series win against India.

Boucher was complimentary of South Africa’s fighting spirit, particularly with Dean Elgar and Temba Bavuma’s influence on the team. “If you got fighters as leaders, it’s the character of the team,” said Boucher.

Boucher rated this series win in “the top five” of South Africa’s Test series victories. “One of the best Test series played, certainly in South Africa,” said Boucher.

South Africa were particularly impressive when placed under pressure by India. “Our guys are playing good pressure cricket at the moment.” Boucher continued, “Getting themselves into good positions and winning.”

Two of South Africa’s emerging stars, Keegan Petersen and Marco Jansen, were instrumental to the team’s series victory. Petersen, Boucher said, “Has always shown signs of the player we’re seeing right now. He’s a tough nut. Batting at 3 in Test cricket, you got to be tough.

Technically sound as well. The way he has come through in this series, I’m lost for words. Man of the series, fully deserved.” About Jansen, Boucher said, “He didn’t start off too well. After that first day, we look at him, and we think ‘what a find.’”

Boucher signed off, “It’s good to get good results. These guys have been through tough times.”
