We wrap up all the action that took place on Day 4 of the 1st round of 4-Day Series fixtures.
The Titans have achieved the improbable and notched up their first win of the season, courtesy an excellent century from the Proteas Test batsman, Theunis de Bruyn.
A confident start from the top three laid the platform, and de Bruyn batted through much of the innings, until a steady unbeaten 41 from Junior Dala sealed the deal. It was a spirited effort from fast bowler Ziyaad Abrahams and left-arm spinner George Linde to keep the game within reach for the Cobras, but a clinical performance from the Proteas trio of Elgar, Markram, and de Bruyn prevailed.
Cape Cobras 264/9(d) + 201
Titans 150 + 316/8 (Theunis de Bruyn 127 – Linde 4-123)
The Dolphins start their season off with a win at home, as the duo of Keshav Maharaj and Prenelan Subrayen successfully spun out the Lions. Both took wickets just when the current partnership was looking to gain momentum.
The Lions eventually compensated for the stiff deficit, leading by just 10 runs after getting bowled out.
Dolphins 458/3(d) + 11/1
Lions 258 + 210 (R Hendricks 38, B Fortuin 37 – Maharaj 6-101, Subrayen 3-63)
Following a blistering start, the Knights made short work of what remained in this match. A quick three-wicket burst from left-armer Mbulelo Budaza helped polish off the Warriors tail and secure the first victory for his side in the competition.
Right from the start it’s been a top all-round performance from the talented Free State based franchise, with several players, both young and experienced, displaying their caliber.
Knights 430/6(d) + 93/8(d)
Warriors 158 + 186 (Breetzke 77* – Budaza 4-47)
