“It’s nice when everything comes together,” said Proteas Test captain, Dean Elgar, after South Africa delivered a clinical win against the West Indies in the first Test match at St. Lucia.

“Test wins are something we don’t take for granted. I certainly don’t take it for granted because of the effort that goes into the game,” reflected Elgar.

Impressed with the all-round performance of the Proteas, Elgar heaped praise on his bowling unit comprising of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, and Keshav Maharaj, and the batting unit, particularly, Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, and Rassie van der Dussen.

“We scored over 300 runs on a wicket that was quite favorable to the seam bowlers.” Elgar continued, “Quinny scoring another Test hundred, his highest Test score, guys like Aiden and Rassie who applied themselves as well.”

Elgar cautioned against complacency ahead of the second Test match. “It would be a sin if we took our foot off the gas. I want a 2-0 series win against the West Indies. We’re not going to stop here.”

Elgar wants to continue playing an “old-school South African style of cricket.” “Knowing that we have it within us, it’s about getting it out of the guys,” Elgar stated.
