The Mumbai Indians, despite losing the toss, were dominant from the start.

Trent Boult was in excellent form, dismissing Marcus Stoinis for a golden duck, followed by Ajinkya Rahane in his second over for 2.

DC found themselves reeling at 22/3 after Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed for 15.

The neutral would have been delighted that it was not a complete disaster of an innings for DC – half-centuries from Rishabh Pant (56 off 38 balls) and skipper Shreyas Iyer (65 off 50 balls), crucial to their side posting a competitive total.

DC posted 155/6 after choosing to bat.

The South Africans in the game only came into action in Mumbai’s Innings.

Quinton de Kock started off positively, the Proteas skipper particularly brave against his star bowler Kagiso Rabada, who he smacked around for a couple of boundaries. But he only lasted until the 5th over, losing his wicket on 20 to Stoinis.

Despite De Kock’s early departure, Rohit Sharma stepped up as skipper, to outshine his opposing captain. The opener scored 68 off 51 balls (5 fours, 4 sixes) before Anrich Nortje dismissed him, adding another big-name wicket to his name.

After Nortje was hit for consecutive boundaries by Kieron Pollard, Rabada dismissed the West Indian big-hitter to reduce them to 147-4.

Nortje took the wicket of Hardik Pandya with the scores level, but it was a little too late for DC.

A cameo 32 off 18 balls from Ishan Kishan (3 fours and 1 six) was key to the win for MI, as they successfully defended their IPL crown.

This was their 5th IPL title.
