Two down before the close, the struggling Proteas batting unit still have a huge task in front of them after England set a first innings total of 499 runs on day two of the third Test in Port Elizabeth.

With an overnight score of 224/4, Stokes (120 off 214) and Pope (135* off 226) capitalised on what was a disappointing bowling performance from the Proteas on a gloomy day two at St George’s Park.

The Proteas fast bowlers couldn’t take advantage of the overhead conditions which favoured their style of bowling, as a result Keshav Maharaj took all the five English wickets that fell on day two.

Like we have seen throughout the series, the English bowlers came on to bowl late on day two and it seemed like they were bowling on a totally different pitch. Mark Wood was getting a lot of purchase off the wicket and troubled the South African batsmen.

Bowling in tandem with Wood at the other end, Dom Bess picked up two wickets to complete what was a miserable day for the Proteas.

South Africa ended day two on 60-2
