2ND TEST DAY 1 WRAP: DEAN ELGAR GETS STUCK IN

After a watchful start on Day 1, Elgar and Van der Dussen were now taking the attack to the Sri Lankans, looking far more comfortable dispatching loose deliveries to the boundary.

Elgar soon registered his 13th Test century and van der Dussen notched his fourth Test half-century.

At 216/1, with a record partnership of 184 between Elgar and van der Dussen, South Africa looked set to dominate the rest of the Test match. This is now the highest second-wicket partnership by South Africans against Sri Lanka.

Elgar’s dismissal immediately after a drinks break triggered a collapse that witnessed the wickets of Van der Dussen (67), Faf du Plessis (8), and Quinton de Kock (10).

Losing four wickets for 23 runs brought Sri Lanka back in the Test match.

South Africa have finished the first session at 256/5, leading Sri Lanka by 99 runs.

After the break, South Africa were bowled out for 302 with a lead of 145 runs.
