Senuran Muthusamy was the first one to go in the session courtesy of some fine spin bowling by Ravindra Jadeja.
Faf didn’t last long either, he edged an Ashwin off-spinner that held its line a bit and Ajinkya Rahane took a regulation catch at first slip to dismiss the South African captain for an attacking 64 runs.
After bowling 26 overs in India’s first innings, Vernon Philander finds himself with a task of batting with the tail, with the Proteas still trailing by 404 runs.
Philander was on 23 off 111 deliveries and Keshav Maharaj was on 21 off 50 deliveries.
At tea, South Africa was on 197-8.
