Saint Andrews School retained the Provincial Schools T20 Finals title by defeating Grey College in Bloemfontein on Sunday 23rd of February 2020.

The defending champions won by 40 runs at the Johan Voldsteedt Oval and were once again crowned champions of the Free State.

St. Andrews won the toss and opted to bat first against the hosts. Things did not go according to plan for the visitors as they found themselves 20/2 in the first six overs. The home side turned the screws even tighter on the visitors restricting them to 125 all out, thanks to some superb bowling by the Grey College captain Juan-Dee Olivier with figures of 4/25 which included a hat-trick.

Saints did not go down without a fight with JD Bruwer restoring some pride for the visitors with his 38 off 43 balls. He was supported by Gerrit Badenhorst who scored 27 off 32 balls, as well as Reeza Alexander who chipped in with 23 runs off 16 balls.

In response, Grey College got off to a solid start with a 36-run partnership between openers Neels Volschenk and Marco Fouche who scored 19 and 17 respectively. Things went pear-shaped for the home side as they were outdone by the spin of Matthew Davids who finished with figures of 3/6 in 2.3 overs to see his team claim a 40-run victory in a contest that witnessed 14 of the 20 wickets going down to some excellent spin bowling from both teams.

Congratulations to St. Andrews.
