Grant Roelofsen’s half-century and Olly Stone’s four-for were in vain as MICT suffered their first loss by 5 wickets at the hands of the Durban Super Giants who were just too strong in all departments.
Only five games into the inaugural SA20 and the crowds have not disappointed one bit. It’s heartwarming to see stadiums in South Africa packed to capacity and the people fully getting behind the initiative, at last, some positivity.
Another full house at the majestic Newlands and the vibe was eccentric, if you have not been to any of the games yet, seriously what are you waiting for? The tournament is definitely living up to its hype thus far.
MICT got off to possibly the worst start losing both their dangerously power-hitting openers inside the powerplay which pegged them back from the start.
Grant Roelofsen held the innings together with a half-century with vital contributions from George Linde and Delano Potgieter who struck much-needed maximums in the latter stages of the innings to get their side to a somewhat competitive total considering the star-studded bowling lineup they have at their disposal.
Alas, the visitors made light work of the total and chased it down inside 17 overs. Klaasen, Mulder and Mayers all chipped in with 30s.
Watching the last few overs of the match on the balcony bridge close to the media centre, the crowd was not discouraged at all as the MICT theme song kept blaring as Olly Stone picked up wicket after wicket, however, in vain.
The MICT suffered their first defeat of the campaign.
