Rilee Rossouw continued with his unspoken of form with a scintillating knock of 112 not out off just 55 balls to guide the Knights to a thrilling four-run victory over Western Province in Kimberley today.

On a wicket that was evidently flat, Rossouw, batting in No 3, took to the crease in the fourth over and paired superbly with Farhaan Berhadien from the eighth over to amass a stern 130-run combined score and help his post 223-3.

Behardien smashed 57 off 29 balls, which included five 6s and four 4s, scoring a strike-rate of 196.55, before being caught out in the 19th over.

By that time, the job was essentially already done for the Knights, as Rossouw’s unbeaten knock, which included eight 6s and seven 4s at a rate of over 200, ensured the Free State side ascended to their winning score.

Earlier on, Jacques Snyman laid the foundation with his steady score of 32 off 28 balls, but it was veterans and former Proteas stalwarts, Rossouw and Behardien, who came to the party for the Knights.

WP didn’t back down in their chase and showed much resilience and bite, especially after the loss of their fifth wicket in the 12th over and having required 119 runs for victory at the time.

The side from Cape Town kept up with the required run-rate throughout the innings, but their wickets in hand was concerning. However, Wayne Parnell’s and Aviwe Mgijima’s exploits after the loss of their fifth wicket defied much of the odds in their chase.

The pair smashed 60 off 25 balls and instilled much-needed hope, but after Mgijima’s wicket fell in the 16th over, their chase looked ominous. Mgijima scored 22 off 15.

Parnell remained at the crease, but was unable to conjure up any more partnerships to make any solid dents in their growing required rate.

However, having needed 29 runs off the last over, the 32-year-old came scarily close to achieving the target after a slew of wides and no-balls from Migael Pretorius, but his heroics of smashing 80 off 29 balls were left in vain, as WP managed to reach 219-7.

The Knights are set to face the winner between Boland and North West Province in their semi-final match-up.
