Rassie van der Dussen’s 101 off 51 balls helped the Proteas chase down 187 against Pakistan in their final warm-up game ahead of their clash against Australia on Saturday.

In South Africa’s second warm-up game against Pakistan, South Africa won the toss and chose to chase. Chasing 187 in 20 overs, South Africa won with six wickets to spare. 

Pakistan posted 186/6 in 20 overs, thanks to a quickfire 52 off 28 from Fakhar Zaman and an 18-ball 32 from Asif Ali. Kagiso Rabada was South Africa’s standout bowler, having picked three wickets and conceded 28 runs in his quota of four overs. Rabada’s variations in pace were particularly impressive, as he illustrated in the slower ball that deceived and ultimately dismissed Shoaib Malik, with Anrich Nortje taking a simple catch at short Third Man. Keshav Maharaj also produced a noteworthy spell, picking one wicket and conceding 25 runs in 3.2 overs. 

South Africa, chasing a formidable 187 in 20 overs, lost openers Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks early. After being reduced to 15/2 at the end of 3 overs, Rassie van der Dussen and captain, Temba Bavuma, set about rebuilding the innings. With van der Dussen being the aggressor and Bavuma rotating strike, they notched a partnership of 107 runs.

Van der Dussen was the architect of South Africa’s victory, scoring an unbeaten 101 off 51 balls, including 10 boundaries and 4 sixes. He played a 360 game, which included effortless sixes on the leg side, as well as switch hits off-spinners. 

Bavuma was batting at a run-a-ball until he came down the track and dispatched a Shadab Khan delivery over Long On for six, followed by a lap that also went for six off Shaheen Shah Afridi’s bowling. Soon after, Afridi dismissed Bavuma for 46 off 42 balls. 

Heinrich Klaasen displayed some of his old form, as he deposited his fifth ball, bowled by Haris Rauf, for six over Long Off. Klaasen was dismissed off a slower ball off Shaheen Shah Afridi for 14 off 8 balls. 

Needing 19 off the last over, van der Dussen hit Hassan Ali’s first ball for six. David Miller followed suit and hit a six as well. Van der Dussen then dispatched the last two balls for boundaries to seal a fantastic victory for South Africa.
