Babar Azam and Fawad Alam were excellent in their approach to combat everything the Proteas threw at them.

The pitch died out and made things difficult for the Proteas, with the majority of the pace killed off when Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada bowled.

They piled on 123 runs for the 4th wicket, with Babar leading the way with a tidy 77 off 125 balls, supported by his partner Fawad Alam who contributed with a 138-ball 42.

The Proteas will need to regroup and come out with a different gameplan after the break.
