The YesPlay Pro20 Cup continued to deliver plenty of action between 28 September and 1 October, with standout individual performances, close finishes and rain interruptions shaping the latest round of matches.

Border hold their nerve against North West Dragons

Eastern Cape Iinyathi secured a 13-run victory over the North West Dragons at Buffalo Park in East London on 28 September.

Iinyathi posted 151/4 from their 20 overs, with Jason Niemand top-scoring with 44 off 32 balls. Jerome Bossr contributed 33 off 28, while Michael Copeland finished unbeaten on 29.

The Warriors recorded an impressive 35-run victory over the Limpopo Impalas at St George’s Park on 29 September.

Jordan Hermann led the way with 70 off 45 balls as the Warriors posted 175/4 from their 20 overs.

Limpopo responded with 140/8, with Ernest Kemm providing the main resistance through an innings of 63 off 48 balls.

Thomas Kaber was the standout bowler for the Warriors, claiming 4/25 from his four overs to help secure a comfortable victory.

Boland edge Knights in final-ball thriller

Boland produced one of the closest finishes of the week when they chased down the Knights’ 160/5 at Boland Park.

Cole Abrahams led the Knights with 66 off 50 balls, while George van Heerden contributed 53 off 42.

Boland’s reply was anchored by Gavin Kaplan, who struck an unbeaten 58 off 41 balls. Neil Brand added 46 as the hosts reached 161/5 off the final ball to secure a five-wicket victory.

Rain denies CSA High Performance and Tuskers

Rain played a major role on 29 September, with the fixture between CSA High Performance and the KZN Inland Tuskers at the LC de Villiers Oval in Pretoria abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Neither side therefore had an opportunity to produce a result.

Dolphins dominate Northern Cape

The biggest victory of the period came at Kingsmead on 30 September, where the Dolphins demolished Northern Cape by 104 runs.

Bryce Parsons smashed 83 off just 38 balls, including seven sixes, while Grant Roelofsen struck 72 off 33 as the Dolphins piled up 239/5 from their 20 overs.

Northern Cape were unable to keep pace with the required rate and were dismissed for 135 in 16.4 overs.

Okuhle Cele finished with 3/23 as the Dolphins completed a comprehensive victory.

Eastern Storm and Mpumalanga washed out

The weather continued to disrupt the competition when Eastern Storm hosted the Mpumalanga Rhinos at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on 30 September.

Mpumalanga won the toss and elected to bowl, but rain prevented any play and the match was eventually abandoned without a ball being bowled.

South Western Districts cruise past Border

South Western Districts secured a convincing 39-run victory over Border at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on 1 October.

SWD posted 182/4 from their 20 overs, led by Yaseen Vallie’s 62 off 42 balls before he retired hurt.

Slade van Staden provided another important contribution, finishing unbeaten on 52 off 33 balls.

Border were unable to match the required scoring rate and finished on 143/9 from their 20 overs, handing SWD a comfortable victory.

Looking ahead

The latest round produced a mixture of dominant batting displays, tight finishes and frustrating weather interruptions.

The Dolphins produced the biggest statement with their 239/5 against Northern Cape, while Jordan Hermann and Thomas Kaber starred for the Warriors. Boland’s final-ball victory over the Knights provided the closest finish, while rain continued to have an impact on the early stages of the competition.

With the YesPlay Pro20 Cup continuing into October, the competition is beginning to take shape as teams look to build momentum through the pool stages.
