Pretorius’ potential was never questioned or doubted but it has been the execution with the bat that has perhaps been his downfall in his career. Coming in at 4, the all-rounder produced an unforgettable innings for his local team, North West Dragons.

He came in with the team on 41-2 after 4.2 overs and took his time to settle in and made sure he kept rotating strike while he looked to read the conditions. His aim was to catch up in the backend of the innings.

He has batted at three twice in the tournament but struggled to make it count because he did not allow himself time to settle in, but this time around, the 32-year-old played the conditions superbly.

His knock of 70 came from only 50 deliveries and included five 6s and three 4s, all at a strike rate of 140.

Having been bought by Chennai Super Kings in this year IPL, Dwaine Pretorius is in fine form with both bat and ball.

Pretorius and Delano Potgieter were trusted with the responsibility to take the team to a defendable super-over total and they started it brilliantly with Potgieter smashing another huge six, but sadly that was the only run-scoring shot they played as the following deliveries were wickets off the bowling of Ferisco Adams.
