Morris signs with Barbados Tridents – Nortje, van der Dussen to St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots

The 34-year-old South African allrounder will be playing in the CPL for the first time after getting snapped up by the Barbados Tridents, who have won the tournament in 2014 and 2019. He’s now part of a team that boasts several T20 superstars like Thisara Perera, Mohammad Amir, Jason Holder, and Johnson Charles, to name a few.

While he’s yet to comment on whether he’ll be available for the T20WC, his availability for franchise cricket could be a good omen, among other things. Morris is quite a commodity in the franchise circuit, with his fabulous death-overs hitting and sharp pace with the ball in hand.

Anrich Nortje will also get his first CPL gig, with the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots signing him for this year’s tournament. The express pacer has been a quality find for the Proteas, and the CPL should be an exciting experience in store, as he looks to build on his all-format potential. With his rapid yorkers and brisk pace close to the 150 kph threshold, he could be the solution to the wavering consistency for the Proteas’ death bowling.

Finally, the Proteas top-order batsman Rassie van der Dussen will be making a return to the Patriots, having played in the CPL three years ago. In fact, his exploits all around franchise cricket were what finally propelled him to national honors, and since then there’s been no looking back. He’s taken white-ball international cricket by storm, and he’ll look to sustain the momentum as he makes a return to a familiar setup.

More recently, van der Dussen was due to join the Rajasthan Royals to replace Ben Stokes, but he didn’t get a No-Objection Certificate because he was still recovering from injury. He’s included for all formats for the WI tour, which should get him well accustomed to the conditions in the area.

The CPL will get underway in late August. Stay tuned for the Proteas watch!
