SuperSport Park was finally treated with an AB de Villiers show, as he led the Tshwane Spartans to the top of the table with a win over the Paarl Rocks.

This was exactly what this tournament needed and what he needed as well after a quiet MSL last year.

AB de Villiers’ unbeaten 69* off 37 balls that included six 4’s and three 6’s led Tshwane Spartans to a clinical 8-wicket bonus-point victory over the visiting Paarl Rocks to take them to the top of the table, joint on 19 points with Paarl Rocks and Nelson Mandela Bay Giants.

If Cricket Gods exist, they were clearly on De Villiers’ side on Friday evening.

He top-edged Hardus Viljoen three times and then Mangaliso Mosehle and Henry Davis fumbled a catch to dismiss him. Nothing could stop the onslaught.

His timing was immaculate, smashing the ball over deep square leg and cow corner, but more impressively his running between the wickets with Heinrich Klaasen was excellent and that put even more pressure on the opposition bowlers.

It is the perfect time for the Spartans’ top batsman to hit form, as they hunt a home final.
