South Africa scored 626-5d, bowled Zimbabwe out for 170, enforced the follow on and the hosts finished Day 2 of the 2nd Test on 51-1 trailing by 405. 

South Africa started Day 2 on 465-4. 

Wiaan Mulder (264*) and Dewald Brevis (15*) looked to pick up where they left off. 

Brevis got the day started with a beautiful straight drive for four, punishing a full delivery. 

Mulder found an edge for four to gets his day started. 

He went on to score the highest score as a South African captain, passing Graeme Smith’s record of 277 vs England in 2003. 

He also went past AB de Villiers’ 278 against Pakistan in 2010, for the second-highest score in Test cricket by a South African

Brevis was dropped in the slips on 24, he then went on to bring up South Africa’s 500 with a cut shot through the gully for four. 

Matigimu nicked off Brevis for 30, SA were now 513-5. 

Already with the highest score as a Test captain, Mulder continued to break records. He brought up his 300, with one eye on Hashim Amla’s record of 311* against England in 2012. 

Three boundaries in the 102nd over took him to 315*, for the highest score as a South African in Test cricket. 

He continued to add to that, he put up the 3rd highest Test score by a captain, surpassing Mark Taylor’s 334* against Pakistan in 1998. 

He continued to play amazing shots as he chipped away at legends before him. 

Kyle Verreynne supported Mulder well with 42 not out. 

Mulder had 367 off 334 balls by lunch, with South Africa on 626-5

He has the 5th highest score in Test history and 3rd highest as a captain. 

During Lunch the Proteas declared. 

“First things first. We had enough to bowl (at). Brian Lara is a legend. He got 400 or 401 or something against England and for someone to keep that record, it is special. I spoke to Shuks (Shukri Conrad) – and spoke about letting the legends keep (that record). Lara keeping that record is exactly the way it should be,” said Mulder on the declaration. 

Codi Yusuf struck first ball to dismiss Takudzwanashe Kaitano. 

Bosch then dismissed Dion Myers for 1. Zimbabwe were on 4-2. 

Yusuf struck again, dismissing Nicholas Welch, who got an inside edge onto his pads and the catch was taken at gully. Zimbabwe were 15-3 after 6.5 overs. 

Zimbabwe made it past 50, but they lost another wicket, Craig Ervine popping the ball to backward point at the end of the 17th over. 

An over later, Mulder forced Wessly Madhevere (25) to chop it onto his stumps and Zimbabwe were now struggling on 56-5. 

Tafadzwa Tsiga (12) top edged Senuran Muthusamy to short cover. ZIM were now 82-6. 

Tea was called with Zimbabwe on 88-6. 

Despite passing 100 After Tea, Prenelan Subrayen took his first Test wicket, Wellington Masakadza edging to slip. 

Sean Williams took 32 balls to bring up his half-century. 

Subrayen bowled Kundai Matigimu for a duck. ZIM were 121-8. 

Subrayen got his third when he forced Muzarabani to guide the ball to mid-off. ZIM were 135-9. 

Subrayen wrapped up the innings for his fourth, Tanaka Chivanga popping it to short mid on. 

Zimbabwe were all out for 170. South Africa enforced the follow on. 

They got their second innings off to a much better start, taking them to 31-0 after 9 overs. 

Corbin Bosch bowled Myers for 11. 

By the end of the day’s play, Zimbabwe were  51-1, trailing by 405.
