We wrap up Day 1 of the 2nd Round of the 4-Day Series which saw an excellent bowling performance from Lutho Sipamla in the Lions match against the Warriors.

Division One

Warriors vs Lions: Lions trail the Warriors by 22 runs

Having won the toss and chosen to bat first at their first home game at St. George’s Park cricket stadium, the Warriors were bowled out for 96 runs within 50 overs bowled on the first day. Lesiba Ngoepe was the only batter who showed some form of resistance against a highly rated fast bowling unit of the Lions. Promoted to three in the batting order, Ngoepe top scored with 39 runs off 104 deliveries before he fell victim to an impressive fast bowling show put on by Lutho Sipamla. Sipamla finished with figures of 6-34 while Duane Olivier and Malusi Siboto picked up two wickets apiece.

In reply, the Lions opening pair of Dominic Hendricks (36 off 75) and Joshua Richards (29* off 77) put on a solid 73-runs partnership before Mthiwekhaya Nabe got through the defences of Hendricks. The Lions ended the first day on 74-1.

Titans vs Dolphins: Titans end Day One on 371-6

Jordan Hermann (112 off 132) hit his maiden first-class century. On 65 runs, Hermann survived a runout that saw the Dolphins wicket-keeper make a series of errors. Grant Mokoena (49 off 72) and Neil Brand (56 off 79) put on a 109-runs partnership which laid a good foundation for the middle order to add on. Dolphins’ Kerwin Mungroo finished pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-48.

Rocks vs Western Province Blitz: Peter Malan’s 172-ball 96 saves Rocks first innings

The Rocks had a tough day one in the Cape Derby as the Blitz were in the hunt for blood after they survived a near loss in their first-round encounter at Newlands against the Dolphins. Skipper, Malan fought hard for his 96 runs when other batters kept losing their wickets at the other end. The Rocks were all out for 267.
