An imperious run from the bowlers backed up a power-packed batting display, as the Joburg Super Kings annihilated MI Cape Town by 76 runs.

The hosts had to overcome a troublesome start, as both openers Faf du Plessis and Reeza Hendricks departed without scoring. Leus du Plooy and Matthew Wade went about in carefree fashion despite the loss of 3 wickets in the Powerplay.

Wade was the aggressor, as he regularly found the boundary. After he dragged one onto his stumps off Jofra Archer, JSK were on the back foot once again.

However, there was little to worry about, as Donovan Ferreira offered handy support for du Plooy, who brought up an excellent half-century in 32 deliveries.

MICT struck to remove Ferreira and Simmonds, but Romario Shepherd applied the finishing touches in the final over, with two sixes and a four to round off the innings.

JSK not only recovered, but rebounded with aplomb from a spot of bother to reach an imposing 189/6.

Spin did the trick for JSK, as Maheesh Theekshana trapped Wesley Marshall in front. Rassie van der Dussen and Grant Roelofsen both struggled for timing, and both fell prey to Kyle Simmonds. The left arm spinner picked up from where he left off in the previous game, and struck twice in the 8th over.

Tim David briefly threatened, but Simmonds once again had the last laugh when he holed out to long-on. Thereafter, no one was able to get set, with the asking rate skyrocketing.

Gerald Coetzee’s pace proved too much for the lower order batters, and Dewald Brevis’ cameo of 27 came to an end when he was bowled. It was an unfortunately fitting end for a side that was loaded with young and experienced talent on their roster, while the Super Kings have confirmed a top-2 spot in the league table.

JSK 189/6 in 20 overs (du Plooy 81*, Wade 40 – Curran 3-1-26-2)

MICT 113 in 17.5 overs (Brevis 27 – Simmonds 3-0-23-3, Coetzee 3.5-0-27-3)
