Lungi Ngidi showed appreciation to everyone who has taken a stand in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement, writes Khalid Mohidin.

With Test Cricket underway, there was a united stance taken by both England and the West Indies before the game. Everyone took a knee in unison to show their support towards #BlackLivesMatter.

I caught up with Ngidi on Thursday afternoon. We spoke about his journey and the highlights of his career. No one can take that away from him. He spoke about how he fell in love with the game, his time at Hilton, Tuks, the Titans and the Proteas.

He also gave his reaction after witnessing what took place ahead of the Windies vs England Test.

“It’s beautiful to see that every sporting code has shown their support to the Black Lives Matter movement. I saw the West Indies had a black glove on, for them that’s them taking a stand against what’s happening and what’s been happening,” he said exclusively to Cricket Fanatics Magazine.

“So it makes you emotional. It’s been a very rough year. People are finally speaking out and it means a lot just to see now that the cricketing world is stepping in as a sporting code as well. It’s inspiring.

“There’s obviously a lot of things that are inspiring but as part of the sporting code that I’m apart of, it’s nice to see everyone come together, and show their support and what stand they take.”

Ngidi has also been trending on Twitter when two former Proteas’ reactions to his post-awards press conference – in support of the Black Lives Matter movement – was posted on the Social Media platform.

As a result, there has been an outcry of support, with fans tweeting “We Stand With Lungi Ngidi” in support of his comments he made on Wednesday:

“It’s definitely something I believe we would be addressing as a team,” he said.

“And if we’re not, it’s obviously something that I would bring up. It’s something that we need to take seriously, like the rest of the world is doing. We need to make a stand.”
