It was a wicketless first session as India looked comfortable going into the lunch break on 83-0 on Day 1 in Centurion.

The morning headlines were dominated by Duanne Olivier’s omission from the starting XI. Instead, a debut for 21-year-old Marco Jansen was welcomed by the excitement on social media.

From a cricket perspective, India dominated the first session of the Test match posting 83/0 after 28 overs. After winning the toss, the Indian openers, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal were largely unperturbed by the South African quicks, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, and Wiaan Mulder.

Jansen conceded three boundaries in his first over. He almost had Agarwal out for 36 but was unlucky to miss out owing to Quinton de Kock dropping a fairly challenging catch, diving to his right.

While the Indian openers displayed tight techniques and showed how to bat on these wickets, the Proteas bowling performance was rather underwhelming, with all the bowlers clocking speeds between 130 km/h to 138 km/h, with the occasional delivery hitting that 140 mark.

At the end of the session, Agarwal was unbeaten on 46 off 84 balls, and KL Rahul was unbeaten on 29 off 84 balls.
