Lungi Ngidi was the only bowler to take wickets on Day 1 for South Africa as India posted 272-3 thanks to a KL Rahul century at Centurion in the 1st Test.

The morning headlines were dominated by Duanne Olivier’s omission from the starting XI. Instead, a debut for 21-year-old Marco Jansen was welcomed by the excitement on social media.

From a cricket perspective, India dominated the first session of the Test match posting 83/0 after 28 overs. After winning the toss, the Indian openers, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal were largely unperturbed by the South African quicks, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, and Wiaan Mulder.

The second session was a lot better for the home side.

Lungi Ngidi was the key bowler taking 2 wickets in the session, Mayank Agarwal (60) & Cheteshwar Pujara (0) with successive balls, both off-cutters.

India only managed 74 runs for the fall of 2 wickets.

KL Rahul finished the second session on 68 not out and Virat Kohli on 19 not out, restoring the stability. They were on 157-2 by the break.

In the final session, India looked settled. They added runs with Rahul inching closer to 3 figures.

But Ngidi was the man to break up the momentum once again, this time dismissing Virat Kohli (35) by drawing him to play at a wide half volley which he edged to Wiaan Mulder in the slips.

India, however, still had an inform Rahul at the crease, who continued to bat beautifully. Ajinkya Rahane picked up where Kohli left off and managed to perform better.

the final session saw 115 runs scored for 1 wicket in 33 overs.

Rahul finished on 122 and Rahane 40 in a comfortable batting display by the visitors.
