Lizelle Lee explains how her maiden T20 World Cup century in the 113-run victory against Thailand has revived her confidence.

Lee was ruthless in her approach as the Proteas scored a record-breaking 195/3 in a 113-run win against Thailand.

Her maiden century came off 60 balls striking at 168.33. Majority of her shots were decided in two main areas, over mid-wicket and over extra cover.

But she explained that it was not a conscious decision, in fact, she just stuck to a saying that she aims to implement in her performances.

“No, that’s where the ball went,” Lee explained.

“As soon as I try to premeditate, I usually lose my wicket. So I have a saying, see ball hit ball, and that’s something that I did today.

Her confidence was not at its flowing best heading into the tournament, especially after she struggled to score against New Zealand. But she admitted that scoring the way she did in the match against Thailand has boosted her confidence.

“Things haven’t gone my way since we had the New Zealand tour,” she said. “So it was just good to get a few runs on the board, just getting that confidence back.

“It’s two different things batting in the nets and batting out in the middle. I think I was hitting the ball very well in the nets, and it just didn’t come off in the middle.

“It does take a little bit of a dip in your confidence. Look, I’m just happy to get the runs on the board and making sure our team wins.

“I think everybody needs a little bit of confidence. You can’t go out there not having any. If it’s your day, it’s your day. You have to cash in.”
