The scorching heat in Paarl was quickly forgotten as the Royals played their first home game in front of a packed Boland Park.
Bjorn Fortuin, who had plenty of success on this ground in his career, took the responsibility of opening the bowling to a classy JSK outfit. Usually, pressure can get to you in this scenario but with a riled Paarl faithful fully behind you, it can make you feel 7 ft tall.
The spin wizard took advantage of this, by dismissing both openers, Reeza Hendricks and Janneman Malan in quick succession. Two wickets in the 3rd over and another in the 5th saw JSK in a tizz.
It never helped the visitors when they lost their skipper Faf du Plessis to the returning Lungi Ngidi.
JSK were 9 down for 55 runs after 12 overs and searching for runs.
Evan Jones, in his first game, picked up star man Donovan Ferreira and George Garton, while the Iceman Ferisco Adams added Romaria Sheperd and Alzarri Joseph to the list of casualties. JSK were all out for 81 after 17.2 overs.
The Royals’ chase was not unblemished, losing 3 wickets with 70 on the board after nine overs.
Skipper David Miller saw his side to a 7-run victory along with Jos Buttler (29 off 21 balls).
