A series of messages have been shared in an exclusive video, featuring a special guest appearance from DJ Khaled, which reflects on Sunday’s memorable Betway Pink ODI that saw over R1-million raised for a worthy cause.

This year marked the sixth anniversary of the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital Breast Care Unit benefiting as the primary recipient of the proceeds from this remarkable sporting event, which was once again a resounding success. Through the now entrenched #BePartOfIt and #PledgePink campaign, cancer patients have been able to obtain specialised treatment and care, regardless of geographical location or socioeconomic status.

Since the inception of this multi-faceted fixture in 2013, over R7-million had been raised from sponsors, fans, Cricket South Africa and the players themselves in support of breast cancer; and that figure has now grown even further after more than 10,000 spectators ‘pitched up in pink’ at the DP World Wanderers Stadium.

With the Proteas eventually emerging victorious over the Netherlands in a high-scoring affair, a major contributing factor was also the contribution of title sponsors Betway, who generously contributed R1,000 for every four (61), and R2,000 for every six (15), that was hit by either team.

In recognition of this legacy project, CSA and commercial partner Roc Nation Sports International collaborated to incorporate several key matchday activations aimed at education, information and engagement around breast cancer awareness.

“It was deeply meaningful to have been part of the Pink ODI, which was such a success on Sunday,” commented Michael Yormark, the president of Roc Nation Sports International. “We had numerous representatives attending the game, and they were blown away by the occasion. Congratulations to all involved, most especially in terms of raising over R1-million rand to a cause that is so close to our hearts!”

The global reach of the Betway Pink ODI was also exemplified by the special ‘shout out’ shared by world-renowned American artist DJ Khaled.

“You raised a lot of money for a great cause, and that is beautiful,” he shared in an exclusive video. “I’m sending nothing but love and blessings your way. Keep winning, keep inspiring and keep uplifting the people.”
