An all-round show from Delano Potgieter has set up a thumping win for MI Cape Town against Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Gqeberha.

The hard-hitting left-hander helped add 42 runs in the final 4 overs after the quick wickets of Azmatullah Omarzai and skipper Rashid Khan. Potgieter’s 25 from 12 helped drive the visitors to a competitive total at halftime, but that was just the calm before the storm.

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape got off to a shaky start in their chase of 175, but it was Potgieter’s 4 wickets in 6 legal deliveries that completely derailed the innings. In his first over, he struck three times, removing Beyers Swanepoel and the experienced Proteas duo of David Bedingham and Aiden Markram, the SEC skipper. The all-rounder impressed with his variations on a slightly two-paced surface, and interestingly enough, this was his first dig with the ball in his entire SA20 career.

Fittingly, Potgieter claimed his 5th wicket and personal-best bowling return of 5/10 when he bowled #11 Richard Gleeson. The defending champions slumped to a massive 97-run defeat in the season opener.

For a long time, the Lions allrounder was on the fringes of the MICT XI, but he has well and truly proven himself to become a regular from this point onwards.
