The CSA T20 Challenge produced a weekend of record-breaking batting, dominant bowling spells and standout individual performances across seven scheduled matches from 2–4 October.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius stole the headlines with a new world record, while Adnaan Lagadien, Joshua van Heerden and Prenelan Subrayen were among the other players to make their mark across the weekend.

Pretorius powers Titans to dominant win

Lhuan-dre Pretorius produced a historic innings as the Titans claimed a commanding 124-run victory over the Knights at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.

Batting first, the Titans piled on 267/3 from their 20 overs, with Pretorius smashing an unbeaten 188 from just 79 deliveries.

The 20-year-old struck 15 fours and 13 sixes at a strike rate of 237.97, surpassing Chris Gayle’s famous 175* for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013 to register the highest individual score in men’s T20 cricket.

Pretorius reached his half-century from 24 balls, his century from 40 and moved to 150 from only 58 deliveries. Donovan Ferreira added a rapid unbeaten 29 from 11 balls late in the innings as the Titans finished with 267/3.

The Knights were unable to get close to the target and were bowled out for 143 in 17.2 overs, handing the Titans a comprehensive victory.

Rhinos hold firm against KZN Inland

The Mpumalanga Rhinos secured a 17-run victory over KwaZulu-Natal Inland at Uplands College in White River.

The Rhinos posted 159/4 from their 20 overs before successfully defending the total, dismissing KZN Inland for 142 in 19.3 overs.

Bryn Brokensha provided an important late contribution with an unbeaten 44 from 21 deliveries, while Benjamin van Niekerk finished on 38 not out.

Cameron Dean Shekleton led KZN Inland’s response with 50 from 46 balls, but the Rhinos maintained enough control with the ball to secure the victory.

Thabile Hlatuka, Jon Hinrichsen and Themba Maupa each picked up two wickets as the Rhinos closed out the contest.

Dragons chase down 206 at the Wanderers

North West Dragons produced one of the weekend’s most impressive chases to beat the Lions by six wickets at the Wanderers.

The Lions posted a formidable 205/5 from their 20 overs, leaving the Dragons needing 206 for victory.

North West responded superbly, reaching 207/4 in 19.2 overs to complete the chase with four balls remaining and claim an important Pool A victory.

It was another demonstration of the Dragons’ batting depth as they successfully handled the pressure of chasing more than 10 runs per over at one of South Africa’s traditionally high-scoring grounds.

Subrayen takes five as Dolphins cruise past Limpopo

Prenelan Subrayen delivered one of the standout bowling performances of the weekend as the Dolphins secured a seven-wicket victory over Limpopo at the Polokwane Cricket Club.

Limpopo were bowled out for just 91 in 19.4 overs, with Subrayen tearing through the batting line-up to finish with outstanding figures of 5/11 from his four overs.

The Dolphins suffered some early trouble in response, slipping to 8/3, but Romashan Pillay and Hanu Viljoen took control of the chase.

Pillay finished unbeaten on 52 from 42 deliveries, while Viljoen contributed an unbeaten 39 from 24 as the Dolphins reached 95/3 in 12.5 overs to complete a comfortable seven-wicket victory.

Boland continue strong run

Boland continued their impressive start to the competition with a 63-run victory over KwaZulu-Natal Inland at City Oval in Pietermaritzburg.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Boland posted an imposing 187/5 from their 20 overs, with Lehan Botha playing an important role with a half-century.

KZN Inland struggled to keep pace with the required rate in response and were eventually bowled out for 124 in 19.1 overs.

Siyabonga Mahima led the way with the ball for Boland, claiming four wickets as they wrapped up another valuable Pool B victory.

Rain washes out Warriors-Lions clash

There was no action possible between the Warriors and Lions at St George’s Park, with persistent rain resulting in the Pool A encounter being abandoned without a ball bowled.

Neither side had the opportunity to take the field, meaning the points were shared as both teams turned their attention towards their next fixtures.

Lagadien century not enough as Province chase 195

Western Province completed an impressive chase against South Africa Emerging at Newlands, winning by six wickets in a high-scoring encounter.

South Africa Emerging batted first and posted 194/4 from their 20 overs, largely thanks to a brilliant century from Adnaan Lagadien.

Lagadien smashed 106 from 58 deliveries, including 11 fours and six sixes, reaching his century from 53 balls. Jason Rowles also played an important supporting role with an unbeaten 45 from 31 balls.

Western Province, however, responded aggressively in the chase.

Joshua van Heerden led the way as Province maintained the required scoring rate throughout the innings, with his 88 helping put the hosts in position to complete the chase.

Western Province eventually reached 200/4 in 19.4 overs, getting over the line with just two balls remaining to secure a six-wicket victory.

Pretorius headlines a weekend of standout performances

Pretorius’ historic 188* was undoubtedly the headline performance of the round, with the Titans opener rewriting the T20 record books in Bloemfontein.

But there were impressive performances throughout the weekend.

Lagadien’s 106 for South Africa Emerging was followed by Van Heerden’s match-winning contribution in the same game, while Subrayen’s five-wicket haul helped the Dolphins dominate Limpopo and Mahima played a major role in Boland’s victory over KZN Inland.

With valuable points collected across both pools, the latest round has added further intrigue to the CSA T20 Challenge as teams continue to battle for momentum in the competition.
