Neil Brand struck a superb 152 as the Cricket South Africa Invitation XI and Australia played out a draw in their two-day tour match at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

The match provided Australia with valuable time in the middle ahead of their Test series against the Proteas, while several South African players were given an opportunity to test themselves against a strong Australian side.

After Australia won the toss and elected to field, the CSA Invitation XI posted 318/7 declared from their 90 overs.

The hosts had slipped to 105/4 before Brand took control of the innings.

The left-hander brought up his half-century from 73 deliveries before converting it into a century from 144 balls. He continued to accelerate and eventually reached 150 from 173 deliveries.

Brand finished with 152 from 174 balls, striking 16 fours and five sixes before being dismissed by Beau Webster from the final delivery of the innings.

Jorich van Schalkwyk provided support with 33 from 87 balls, while Jean du Plessis contributed 41 from 78 deliveries as the Invitation XI recovered from their difficult start.

Tshepang Dithole scored 30 and Joshua Richards added 28.

Australia spread the workload across their attack, with Josh Hazlewood, Michael Neser, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Matthew Kuhnemann, Cooper Connolly and Webster taking a wicket each.

Australia responded with 368/6 from 74 overs, with Marnus Labuschagne producing the standout innings.

Labuschagne scored 111 from just 89 deliveries, finding the boundary 19 times before retiring out.

Steven Smith also enjoyed valuable time at the crease, making 61 from 95 balls before retiring out, while Alex Carey struck 57 from 66 deliveries.

Matt Renshaw made 32 and Travis Head scored a brisk 22 before the pair were dismissed by Christopher King and Mthiwekhaya Nabe respectively.

Beau Webster added 42 before retiring out, while Cooper Connolly finished unbeaten on 20 alongside captain Pat Cummins on six.

Brand completed an impressive individual match by also claiming the wicket of Carey, finishing with 1/32 from six overs.

Nabe returned figures of 1/53 from 13 overs, while King took 1/40 from nine.

Australia finished 50 runs ahead of the Invitation XI, but with the fixture designed as a two-day warm-up and both teams using extended squads, the match ended in a draw.

For Australia, the fixture provided an opportunity for their batters and bowlers to get accustomed to South African conditions.

For the CSA Invitation XI, however, the standout performance belonged to Brand, whose 152 against an Australian attack featuring Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc and Lyon was the defining innings of the match.
