Dewald Brevis became the Proteas’ youngest T20I centurion as South Africa beat Australia by 53 runs.
It was another lovely evening in the North of Australia for the second game of the 3-match T20 series between Australia and South Africa.
Australia won the toss and elected to field first.
South Africa started much better than they did in the previous game. They were 88-3 after the first 10 overs.
Brevis and Stubbs strung together another crucial partnership, scoring 126 from 57 balls.
However, it was Brevis who took all the spotlights, scoring an unbreakable 125* from 56 balls (8 sixes, 12 fours).
He became the youngest player to hit a century in a T20I. He also hit the highest score by a South African in a T20I.
South Africa finished with a mammoth 218-7, which was the highest score by South Africa against Australia in a T20I.
Australia had a huge mountain to climb, needing 219 from 120 balls.
The Proteas’ bowling was just as good as the batting, as they bowled the hosts out for just 165.
Tim David had another great performance with the bat, getting 50 from 24 balls.
Despite being expensive, Kwena Maphaka managed to add another 3 wickets to his tally, finishing with 3-57.
Corbin Bosch also bowled well, taking 3-20. Peter, Rabada, Ngidi and Markram all also picked up a wicket.
With a dominant all-round performance, South Africa not only levelled the series but also sent a strong message ahead of the decider.
