Andile Phehlukwayo’s 87 and Heinrich Klaasen’s 58 were key to the South Africa ‘A’ side posting 273-7 in the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe.

The South African A side got off to a decent start after Zimbabwe A put them into bat.

Openers Theunis de Bruyn and Tony de Zorzi produced a solid opening stand of 57, but a lazy jab outside off from De Bruyn (32) saw him nick off Donald Tiripano for the opening wicket of the match.

De Zorzi was next to fall to Tiripano, he was dismissed after 28 off 47 balls. Next to go was Reeza Hendricks by the same man, and shortly after Khaya Zondo was bowled by Sikandar Raza.

This brought Klaasen and Phehlukwayo to the crease. The pair took SA A to 230 before Klaasen lost his wicket on 58 off 51 balls which included 4 fours and 1 six.

Andile Phehlukwayo tried to push up the run rate and as result lost his wicket on 87 off 93 balls which included 5 fours and 4 sixes in an excellent performance for his side. He lost his wicket on the last ball of the 49th over.

Phehlukwayo showed a much-needed display with the bat, an area of his game that many fans have criticised in the past. He can add this contribution as another check in the batting column for him this season.

Bjorn Fortuin hit a maximum to take South Africa A over 270 as they ended their innings on 273-7.
