Aiden Markram top-scored in Round 2 of the CSA Provincial One Day Cup with a 70 to help the Titans beat the Dolphins in one of three Division 1 clashes on Sunday.

The second round of One Day Cup fixtures was a low-scoring and disruptive one, which saw the Titans, WP Blitz and the Rocks pick up wins.

Titans vs Dolphins

Markram, who has yet to find form in the 50-over game for the Proteas, notched up a crucial knock that helped the Titans go from finding themselves on 34-3 to end up with 216/9 in a winning chase.

Markram came in at No 4 and his 70 off 84 balls brought stability into the batting strategy. This gave Heinrich Klaasen (42 off 63) and Sibonelo Makhanya (49* off 59) enough insight into the approach on the wicket as they continued where Markram left off.

The Titans bowled well to restrict the Dolphins to 215/6. They toppled over the top 4 for 91 runs, and if it wasn’t for a Khaya Zondo’s 62 off 79 balls plus two cameo 26’s from Andile Phehlukwayo and Keshav Maharaj, the Dolphins would have found themselves completely out of the game.

Nonetheless, it was still a difficult task for the Dolphins bowlers, who put on an excellent fight to try and defend the total they set. Despite all the Proteas, it was Ottniel Baartman (3-35) and Prenelan Subrayen (3-33) who almost got the job done for their side. They lost by just 1 wicket.

Lions vs WP Blits

The Lions batted first. In a low-scoring game, which saw the Lions all out for 186, Rassie van der Dussen (67) and Sisanda Magala (57) starred with the bat. Tshepo Moreki took 4-41.

It seemed like WP had the win easily in the bank. That wasn’t the case. Spoiler alert, WP did get the win, however, by just 1 wicket.

Goerge Linder took his side over the line with a 67 off 87 balls, coming in when his side were 69-4.

Sisanda Magala caused problems with the ball too, taking 3-37. Bjorn Fortuin made sure he had a say too, taking 3-20 in 10 overs.

The Knights vs The Rocks

This match was cut in half by rain. The Knights batted first and set 166/6. Jacques Snyman’s 60 off 46 balls was the highlight of the innings.

The Rocks matched that and raised thanks to 69 off 75 from Janneman Malan and 38 off 25 from Michael Copeland. The two players managed to set up a decent chase. They got over the line with 3 balls to spare and won by 4 wickets (D/L method).

North West vs Warriors

Abandoned without a ball bowled.
