India have maintained their spotless home record in T20Is with a tremendous batting display. They posted a massive 237, which was too high a mountain for the Proteas to scale.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma set the tone, with the former being the aggressor against the South African pacers. The Proteas finally got some respite when Keshav Maharaj dismissed both the openers, but that joy was pretty short-lived.

Suryakumar Yadav continued his scintillating touch, as he effortlessly struck boundaries to all areas. The seamers never found their lines and lengths, and even the slightest errors were duly punished.

Virat Kohli joined the fun as well, and Dinesh Karthik provided the late kick after Yadav was run out.

It may have been a conducive surface to bat on, but the Proteas openers failed to get it going during the Powerplay. Skipper Temba Bavuma played out a maiden opening over and holed out to mid-off. Rilee Rossouw joined him in the dugout, also without scoring, providing Arshdeep Singh two wickets in his first over.

Aiden Markram briefly threatened, but Axar Patel bowled him with a delivery that straightened. Quinton de Kock struggled for much of his innings, scoring at less than a run a ball. However, David Miller found his range rather quickly, and with him present, SA could give the Indian bowlers a run for their money.

It wasn’t until the 15th over when de Kock finally opened up, but the target was all but unreachable at that stage.

Miller carried on with his hefty blows, reaching a second T20I century in the last over of the chase. Sadly, it was always going to be too far away given the stuttering start in the Powerplay.

The hosts now have an unassailable 2-0 advantage. The third and final T20I will be on Tuesday in Indore. It might be a lost series, but the Proteas have yet another opportunity to pick up the pieces and rebound.

IND 237/3 in 20 overs (Yadav 61, Rahul 57, Kohli 49* – Maharaj 4-0-23-3)
SA 221/3 in 20 overs (Miller 106, de Kock 69 – Arshdeep 4-0-62-2)
